The mentoring program did wonders for me. Not only did I meet some amazing people, I built some amazing friendships, one in particular who helped me get through some difficult times of resume writing and job searching. Michael was top notch and helped me with skills I still use present day. Many thanks to the program and to those who make it possible. -Niki Burns, AmeriCorps Promise Fellow-

The Twin Cities AmeriCorps Alums is developing a Peer Mentor Network. The program will try to match AmeriCorps members/nonprofit professionals who want career advice with AmeriCorps alumni/nonprofit professionals who want to share their experience. The purpose is to connect with people that have similar interests; build ongoing relationships; and share knowledge, skills, and resources. We want to help AmeriCorps members/nonprofit professionals prepare for "life after AmeriCorps" and take the next steps in their career. The benefits of volunteering and mentoring are significant. The mentoring relationship should be a two way exchange of ideas, and people can solve bigger problems when they work together. The program is flexible (the mentor and mentee set their schedule) and the time commitment is minimal (2-3 meetings every 6 months).
We will start matching people at the end of June 2018. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to find a peer mentor for everyone.
Note: 2nd year AmeriCorps members can be great peer mentors for 1st year AmeriCorps members.
