Mission
We improve the community by encouraging current and former members to continue the spirit of service through advocacy, service, and social events.
Twin Cities AmeriCorps Alums
Our Chapter was originally established in 2012 with eight members on the Leadership Committee: Brandon B, Kim C, Desiree C, Andy G, Marc H, Kristi K, Gina S, Michael Z. The Chapter organized service and social events every other month from 2012 to 2014. In 2014, the Chapter developed an AmeriCorps Job Mentor Program. This program matched current AmeriCorps members that wanted career advice or needed help finding a job after their service with AmeriCorps alumni/nonprofit professionals who wanted to share their skills and experience. We were able to recruit 12 mentors for the program and matched them to 18 mentees, and several were able to find jobs after being matched.
In 2015, several Leadership Committee volunteers left for various reasons and the Chapter became inactive. In early 2018, the Chapter is working towards becoming active again.
The Chapter had various partnerships with ServeMinnesota, InterCorps Council, Young Nonprofit Professionals Network, and Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, and we are looking forward to reestablishing those partnerships.

AmeriCorps Alums
AmeriCorps Alums (a program of Service Year Alliance) is the only national network that connects the nearly one million alumni of all AmeriCorps programs who have served since 1994 to the people, ideas, and resources that support their commitment to a lifetime of service. AmeriCorps alumni are predominantly between the ages of 21-35, more racially diverse than the U.S. population, and over 60 percent female. To learn more about who alums are and to understand their aspirations and impact on America, read our 2014 national survey, Untapped Potential.
History
AmeriCorps Alums is the only national network that connects the nearly one million alumni of all AmeriCorps programs. AmeriCorps is a public-private partnership founded in 1994 that engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. All AmeriCorps programs are administered by the federal agency, The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). CNCS conducted a study that led to the development of an alumni association that became the "Partnership for National Service,” which at that time worked under the Points of Light Foundation (POLF).
In 1994, the National AmeriCorps Association was founded by a small group of AmeriCorps alumni. It was incorporated as an independent 501(c)3 non-profit named AmeriCorps Alums in April 1997. Once a membership of 2,000, the association is now a robust movement of hundreds of thousands of AmeriCorps supporters. To better serve and represent this growing community, the organization was renamed the National AmeriCorps Association in 2002.
In 2004, the board of AmeriCorps Alums decided to pursue a merger to strengthen the organization's capacity. After much research, deliberation, and consultation with alumni and stakeholders, the Board determined to merge the organization into Points of Light & HandsOn Network. AmeriCorps Alums, its network and brand, has thrived as an enterprise of Points of Light since January 2005. Read our 2013 Annual Report for an overview of our top priorities, profiles of leading alumni, and our plans to build a bigger and bolder community of engaged citizens.
In 2018, Service Year Alliance - an organization dedicated to making a year of service a common expectation and opportunity - officially acquired AmeriCorps Alums.
